Archdeacon
Venerable Hirini Kaa is the Archdeacon of Kahui Rangatahi,
Aotearoa. Hirini was collated as the Archdeacon on 25th June
2005 at St Marys Church Tikitiki by Rt Rev. Brown Turei, Te
Pihopa o Aotearoa. He was ordained a Priest on the same day.
The role of Archdeacon of Kahui Rangatahi, Aotearoa is an
appointment made by Te Pihopa o Aotearoa.
An
Archdeacon’s ministry is an extension of the ministry of Te
Pihopa, and therefore they are accountable directly to Te
Pihopa for their actions and undertakings.
The role of
the Archdeacon for Rangatahi (Aotearoa) is to support,
advocate and encourage the ministry and voice of Rangatahi
in Te Pihopatanga o Aotearoa. Rangatahi are defined as
including youth, young adults, and those who work with them.

This is done
through:
Active
involvement at a Te Pihopatanga o Aotearoa level
by regularly
participating in Te Runanga Whaiti and other national bodies
by attending
Hui Amorangi
Praying for
rangatahi
and those involved in ministry to, for, with and by them
within the Te Pihopatanga o Aotearoa
Leading Te
Māra Rangatahi Ministry School
by holding
the position of Kaihautū (Director)
by being
responsible for signing off all employment agreements
relating to paid rangatahi ministry positions within Te Māra
Rangatahi Ministry School
Leading the
development and implementation of the Te Pihopatanga o
Aotearoa Rangatahi Ministry Strategy
Coordinating
the commissioning and licensing of Manu Karakia and other
forms of rangatahi ministry leadership
Working with
nga Pihopa me nga Hui Amorangi in this
Encouraging
quality ministry to rangatahi
by
encouraging Hui Amorangi rangatahi ministry programmes and
initiatives
Ensuring
rangatahi concerns and ideas are heard by those in positions
of authority in Te Pihopatanga o Aotearoa
Keeping
informed on what is happening at ground level across Te
Pihopatanga o Aotearoa in rangatahi ministry by
liaising
with Hui Amorangi rangatahi and rangatahi ministers on a
regular basis
liaising
with Hui Amorangi and nga Pihopa on a regular basis
Coordinating
and enabling Tikanga Maori (Te Pihopatanga o Aotearoa)
rangatahi participation in the three Tikanga life of the
Church, including:
The Tikanga
Youth Exchange (T3 Executive)
General
Synod / Te Hinota Whanui representation and involvement
The Youth
Covenant Commission
Also,
ecumenical rangatahi relationships
Representing
the presence of rangatahi at Te Pihopatanga o Aotearoa
events where appropriate but not to the exclusion of
rangatahi
such as
Ordination services, installations, collations and rangatahi
ministry events
Being
available for ministry projects in relation to rangatahi as
deemed appropriate by Te Pihopa o Aotearoa from time to time
Term of
Office
This license
will last as long as the person holds the office of Kaihautū,
Te Māra Rangatahi Ministry School or for three years,
whichever is the shorter.
